One of the most exciting, fun and valuable experiences for the student is the extension from the classroom to the stage, which comes at our annual performances in June. It’s the final countdown! We have been through over 30 lessons per class, costume sizing, picture week, and more while preparing for our end of year recital! For the 43rd time, the Sharon’s Studio of Dance & Music Family will be on the stage to perform the skills they have worked so hard on all year! Though recital season is a fun time for all, it can be stressful as well; from tickets, to costumes, to choreography, and more, there is a lot to do on all ends! To ease the process, Sharon’s Studio of Dance & Music offers two free tickets to recital per child in addition to a practice CD of their music. Costumes are altered in house when needed, free of charge, which eases the hassle for parents. In addition each family receives a free DVD of the show. Here are some of our top tips to keep your recital day as stress free as possible:
1. LABEL EVERYTHING
Recital can be a fun but hectic time! With all of the excitement, it isn’t hard to lose things! Your name is already on your garment bag(s), but label all of your accessories as well. Generally, all students in the same class will need the same type and color shoes. Often, many students are the same size. Putting your child’s name in their shoes will prevent losing them!
2. Avoid Costume Shenanigans
Keep all of your costumes and accessories in their garment bag(s). This will will help you stay organized and prevent you from losing pieces.
If you have a costume with a tutu, hang it upside down so it stays fluffy.
Sequins & glitter aren't always comfortable for our dancers. If that's the case, try a nude leotard or bodysuit underneath for maximum comfort!
3. Practice your hairstyle and stage makeup prior to the performance.
Practicing the hairstyle and makeup before it is show time is important because you will be more confident and the overall getting ready process will be a lot less stressful. For stage makeup, we often suggest a little blush and lipstick. Our students are to wear a bun or french braid for recital.
*Damp hair can be easier to work with
*Bun Donuts can make the process super simple!
4. For Your Little One
Getting your tiny dancer's costume on can be a process in and of itself, let alone trying to do her hair and makeup too! Over the years we've found the best plan of action is:
Put on costume
Put on one of dad's old button up shirts over the costume
Hair & Makeup
**Leave the shirt on during travel time and basically up until the minute she goes on. stage so nothing happens to her costume!
5. Make Sure You Bring:
Extra Everything!
Lipstick, hair spray, BOBBY PINS!
Tights can easily get runs and/or pulls in them. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so pack an extra pair just in case!
*Pack some clear nail polish also for a quick fix if you do get a pull!
Healthy Snacks & LOTS of Water!
