Often times, dance studios are questioned as to why they have a dress code. You wouldn’t show up to swim practice is jeans and a t-shirt, would you? Or soccer without your shin guards and cleats? There are a variety of reasons as to why dress codes are important for dance studios, keep reading for more information on some of ours!
1. Safety
One of the main reasons dance studios enforce dress codes is for student safety. For example, coming to dance class in baggy pants and clothing can cause you to slip and fall.
2. Decrease the Chance of Developing Bad Habits
Wearing baggy clothing hides the body, while proper dance attire is designed and created to prevent this. If the body is hidden during dance class, it’s impossible to see a student’s alignment, and positioning, which makes it difficult to give corrections. If something like this is missed, it becomes easier to create bad habits and hinder a dancer’s learning.
3. Community
When at the dance studio, we want students (and families) to feel as though they are a part of our dance family. By having students in a uniform dress code, makes them feel as though they are a part of the group.
4. Minimize Distraction & Enhance Focus
Having students abide by a dress code, keeps your dancer more focused on dance class than their clothing.
